A professor with Durham College’s (DC) School of Business, IT & Management and researcher with the college’s Office of Research Services, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ORSIE), Amit
is an innovative technologist with a passion for data. He is also an artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning enthusiast with significant expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Deep Learning who thrives on helping organizations implement these technologies into their business models.
His passion for AI inspired me to take an active role in DC’s new Hub for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence for Business Systems (AI Hub), which provides small-and medium-sized enterprises with access to the rapidly growing AI field. Offering technical expertise, state-of-the-art facilities and learning platforms, and student talent, the hub enables organizations to better understand how the adaption of AI can result in business insights and intelligent and autonomous solutions that can boost their productivity and growth.
A principal investigator for numerous applied research projects, he is a strong contributor to the college’s research agenda, and have implemented 30 research projects over the past three years. These include the development of practical AI solutions using NLP, speech and image recognition, and smart virus/spam detection systems.
