Ali is the Director, Privacy, Risk and Information Security Management (PRISM) at Ontario Health (Shared Services) with over 20 years of experience in information technology, information security, and privacy domains in both Public and Private sectors. Ali is known as a trusted partner with CEOs and CIOs providing taught leadership for identifying and minimizing cyber risks specific to the organizations’ operations, and providing guidance on establishing effective and fit-for-purpose controls against emerging threats. At Ontario Health and as one of the cybersecurity senior leaders, Ali has been leading some of the strategic cybersecurity and privacy initiatives for architecting, implementing, and improving defense posture of healthcare sector in Ontario in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and all other major stakeholders including the hospitals across the province. He has been leading and supporting some of the provincial committees at Ontario Health to harmonize and operationalize holistic privacy, information security, and health information management practices across multiple Business Units within Ontario Health.
Prior to Ontario Health, Ali held senior leadership roles for global organizations such as IBM and PWC, where he was responsible for development and enhancement of cybersecurity competencies for various industries such as leading Cyber Threat Intelligence and Cyber Analytics practices, development of first Cybersecurity Reference Architecture concept for IBM Canada, and leading Cybersecurity Capability enhancement program for protecting Public Transit’s IT & OT operations in collaboration with PWC for Provincial Government of Ontario.
Ali is also a passionate educator who has developed and taught new and advanced disciplines including Information Security, Digital Investigation, and Project Management certificate programs which at the time some were a first among Ontario colleges, while he has been mentoring professional learners in law enforcement, justice, and IT fields for many years.
